Shell Winds
At Frieze London 2026, Casa Triângulo and FOUNDRY SEOUL present Shell Winds, a solo presentation by Fernanda Galvão (b. 1994, São Paulo, Brazil), who lives and works between São Paulo and Paris.
Primarily rooted in painting, installation and video, Fernanda Galvão’s practice explores the points of convergence between landscape, anatomy, and living matter. Drawing equally from biology and science fiction, she develops a biomorphic vocabulary through which she shapes speculative environments.
Her artistic research originates in her interest in cancer cells, linked to her personal experience of illness. “I was particularly fascinated by the pigments used by pathologists to stain cells, as well as by the relationships between the microcosm and the cosmos,” she explains. Never identical and fundamentally unpredictable, these became the starting point for the creation of fictional ecosystems, populated by plant-like entities, membranes, cellular structures, and organisms unknown to humans.
Devoid of sunlight or horizon lines, her autonomous worlds gradually erase spatial and temporal reference points by blurring the boundaries between inside and outside. The multiplicity of unprecedented organic forms also distorts scales, causing the microscopic and the monumental to merge. Through vast fields of color in dialogue with meticulous linear details, Galvão suggests scenes of regenerative entropy and adaptation, in which living systems become reservoirs of memory and carry invisible forms of knowledge.
Recent solo exhibitions include serpent serpent Snake at Galerie Barbara Thumm, Berlin (2026); Two Moons at Casa Triângulo, São Paulo (2025); From where I am / I am already gone at Lyles & King, New York (2024); Sibila at Andersen’s Contemporary, Copenhagen (2024); and Oyster Dream at FOUNDRY SEOUL, Seoul (2023). In 2025, her work was also featured in Alien Shores at White Cube Bermondsey, London. In 2026, she was awarded the Fundación Casa Wabi x ArtReview Residency Prize 2026–27, for a residency in Oaxaca, Mexico.
Her work is held in the collections of Instituto Paz, Inhotim, Brazil; Jorge M. Pérez Collection | El Espacio 23, Miami, USA; and Museu de Arte Brasileira da FAAP, São Paulo, Brazil. Her first monograph, Guelra / Breathing Water, published by B&G Press, will be launched during Frieze London 2026.
